Blooming Tradition: Hemingford Abbots Flower Festival
The beloved Village Flower Festival returns once again this summer, celebrating over six decades of floral beauty, community spirit, and heritage conservation, offering a weekend of vibrant sights, sounds, and tastes for all ages.
This long-established charity event, which began over 60 years ago, raises essential funds for the conservation and repair of St Margaret’s Church a Grade I listed building. A historic gem dating back to the 1300s being the oldest building in the village.
Highlights of the Festival Include:
- Over 20 private gardens—from classic cottage styles to contemporary landscapes—open to the public
- The church decorated with stunning floral arrangements, musical accompaniment provided organists and harpist; jazz concert Saturday evening and Festival Evensong on Sunday
- Traditional Morris dancing, showcasing the village’s historic roots
- A local pub providing hog roast and refreshments throughout the village
- Electric river boat trips offering peaceful scenic rides
- Art exhibitions, displays of historic cars, motorcycles and vintage tractors
- A plant stall, arts and crafts market, second hand books, and performances from live bands
- Teas with homemade cakes are available in some gardens
Each festival brings fresh energy, innovation, and new perspectives, while retaining the cherished features and traditions that have become synonymous with the Flower Festival and give it its enduring charm. This biennial event is a weekend where the entire village comes together, welcoming visitors with open arms and open gates to celebrate tradition, creativity, and a shared passion for preserving the village’s cultural heritage.
Proceeds from the event will go directly toward the ongoing restoration and maintenance of the historic church, ensuring it continues to stand at the heart of the village for generations to come.
Join us for two glorious days of colour, charm, and community.
