Purchase of the Oast House
St Neots Town Council Secures St Neots’ Historic Oast Building, The Maltings
St Neots Town Council is excited to announce the successful acquisition of the former Oast Lounge building, an important listed asset and landmark in the heart of St Neots. This milestone has been achieved thanks to funding from the Government’s Community Ownership Fund, a fund designed to empower communities by providing financial support to purchase, restore, and manage assets that hold significant value to local people. The Town Council has also provided match funding from its Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) reserves.
By bringing the Oast building into community ownership, the Council aims to preserve its historic value while opening its doors to serve the people of St Neots. Together with the Priory Centre, the Oast building will form part of an expanded community offering, ensuring enhanced opportunities for cultural, social, and civic engagement.
The Council is excited to embark on a collaborative journey with local people to shape the future of the building and its uses, creating a vibrant space that serves the needs of the community. Engagement opportunities will be announced in the near future, offering the community a voice in determining how this historic building can best serve St Neots.
The Oast building has long been recognised as an iconic feature of St Neots. Its purchase by the Town Council ensures that it is protected, enhanced, and maintained for generations to come.
